Punta Gorda Handyman: Storm Recovery, Dock Spigots & Shutter Hardware
Punta Gorda Isles and Burnt Store Isles took direct hits in 2022 and 2024, and the long-tail repair work — bent pool-cage uprights people lived with, hurricane shutters that no longer track, dock spigots with corrosion you can see from the seawall — is still active.
We're in PGI weekly. If you've been waiting for a contractor to call back about a single shutter that won't roll up, that's the kind of call we close in one visit.
Hurricane shutter service
Roll-down shutters need axle lubrication every 18 months and end-cap inspections after every storm. We service Roll-A-Way, Eastern Metal, and Bertha brands; replace pull straps; and re-cut bottom rails that warped from impact.
Dock spigots and seawall hose bibs
Direct salt exposure kills standard brass in under 24 months. We replace with Woodford 17 frost-free with stainless stem and 316 backing plate at the seawall mount.
Pool cage rebuilds (post-storm)
Same protocol as our Cape Coral work: pull every panel, sister bent uprights with matched SMA extrusion, re-anchor with 1/4 x 2-3/4 Tapcon, re-screen with 18x14 pet-grade on lower and 20x20 on upper.
Service radius across Charlotte County
PGI, Burnt Store Isles, Burnt Store Marina, Deep Creek, and downtown historic Punta Gorda. We're across the bridge often enough that scheduling is rarely more than a week out.
Why your hurricane shutter binds even though nothing looks bent
After a storm, the failure usually isn't the slats. It's the end-cap bearing on the axle inside the housing. Driven debris hits the housing edge, the end-cap shifts a millimeter or two, and the axle no longer rotates true. The shutter still goes up — for now — but it grinds, and within a few cycles it jams half-way.
We pull the housing cover, re-seat the bearing, lube the axle with a marine-grade dry lube (not WD-40, which holds salt), and run the shutter through five full cycles before we re-cap. That's the version that holds.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you service my hurricane shutters before the next storm?
Yes — annual service, axle lube, end-cap check, strap replacement. Book before May for guaranteed pre-season slots.
Do you do post-storm pool cage rebuilds in PGI?
Yes, weekly. Sister bent uprights with matched SMA aluminum, re-anchor with Tapcon, re-screen with the right mesh for each panel position.
How long is the wait to book in Punta Gorda?
Outside of storm weeks, usually 5–7 days. We hold weekly capacity for PGI and Burnt Store specifically.
